VIDEO TRAINING SERIES: Post 7 of 10

Welcome to the seventh post in our Marquis Academy training series on Quick Tips for Tableau Server.

CUSTOMIZE A DASHBOARD

Did you know you can save time by pre-filtering visualizations to your specific needs? When you set a customized view as your default, you’ll save time by getting the data that you need upon opening the dashboard.

-----------------------------------------------------

Select the filtering options you want, including any filters activated by selecting marks… You can also drill into a specific hierarchy level that you might need. Once you’ve got your view set up the way you want it to be, select “Original View” at the top of the dashboard. You can give your view a name, and decide whether to make it public or keep it private. If you make it public, other users with access to this view will be able to see it when they select “Original View” and they can set it as their own default option for this dashboard. If you choose this option, be sure to give you custom view a descriptive name, so that your colleagues will know what they’re looking at. Once you click “Make it my default”, any time you navigate to this dashboard, it will load with all of your customized filters pre-selected. You can still interact with the view and change the filters without changing your customized version of the view.

No more waiting for Tableau to re-load your filter selections! When you set a customized view as your default, you’ll save time by getting the data that you need upon opening the dashboard.
